Organic Apple Crisp Recipe and Pretty Fall Weather

Easy Apple Crisp Recipe and Fall Weather pictures in California

Apple Crisp is a classic American dish which blends in so perfectly with this Fall weather.  In one of my recent posts, I shared pictures of our recent Apple Picking Trip here in California, that AB and I went for late September. This is made from the organic apples that were freshly picked at the Apple Farms. This recipe is inspired from Laura Vitale’s Apple Crisp recipe, although I have not followed her’s to the T. I have used her recipe to ensure I’m not going totally off on the measurements. (I’m an intuitive cook, you see.)

This Apple Crisp recipe is so perfect for a warm dessert at the end of a long tiring weekday or on weekends (maybe after or while binge watching Netflix?) It’s very easy to make since you are just throwing in some ingredients, mixing them, and putting that in an oven. It is THAT simple. And there is no precision required.

Ingredients you will need:

For the Apple Filling

6-7 medium sized Granny Smith, peeled and quartered

½ tsp cinnamon powder

½ cup brown sugar

2 tbsp all purpose flour

For the crust

½ cup all purpose flour

¾ cup oats

½ tsp baking powder

½ tsp salt

⅓ cup granulated sugar

½ cup butter, very cold, cubed

  1. Preheat oven to 375 F. Chop quartered apples into 3-4 pieces. Keep them large.  Place them in a bowl. Add cinnamon, brown sugar, and all purpose flour. Mix it well so that the apples are well coated with the dry ingredients.
  2. In a separate bowl, mix ½ cup of all purpose flour, oats, baking powder, salt, and granulated sugar. Add the cold, chopped butter to this use your hands or a blender to mix this. Use your thumb and forefinger to gently smoothen the butter with the dry ingredients.
  3. Place the apples in a deep baking dish or a pie dish. Cover this with the crust mixture on top. Press down this crust mix a little bit so that it sits well on the apples.
  4. In a pre-heated oven (375 F), bake this for 45 mins until the crust is golden brown. Let it cool for 10 mins, then serve! Tastes delicious with ice cream.

Like I said before, this recipe and the sweet and tangy, cinnamon-y flavor goes so well with the Fall weather. I enjoy photographing nature and it tried to capture the different times of a Fall day, here in the Bay Area, California.
